In this post, we share some pictures from a recent project at Malmö Entré shopping center in Sweden, where RT Bygg transformed the premises into a CrossFit facility for Brave Fitness.

To minimize disturbing noise to adjacent offices, the floor was constructed with a 120mm floating concrete slab using Vibratec’s Jack-Up Spring System VT-JFS.

Effective isolation of impact noise and vibrations

This solution provides optimal conditions for both gym users and neighboring businesses.

With a successful result, the premises were recently handed over to a satisfied client and tenant.

In an extension of the Amfi Elverum shopping center, which now houses healthcare services such as a dental clinic, a physiotherapy center, and a gym, there was a need for a raised floor that not only ensured good acoustics but also provided the flexibility to accommodate extensive piping for bathrooms, showers, and advanced dental equipment. Vibratec’s raised floor system played a crucial role in achieving this goal.

VT-dBlock is an adjustable floor system specially developed for quick and easy installation and effective isolation of both impact and airborne noise. The system combines sound and vibration isolation with high flexibility to manage technical installations. In addition, we supplied our floor system VT-BAT and our ceiling system VT-SFC to parts of the gym, ensuring excellent vibration and sound damping even in these more demanding environments. Vibratec floor and ceiling solutions were again the preferred choice for their efficiency and reliability.

The project images illustrate how flexible our solutions are and how well they adapt to complex environments with advanced requirements for both piping and effective impact and airborne sound isolation. This further emphasizes why Vibratec floor and ceiling solutions are highly regarded in the construction industry.

Vibratec has delivered nine AVM’s (anti-vibration mounts) to SBM Offshore. These AVM’s will support three motor-gear-pump skids on the FPSO Jaguar (Floating Production, Storage, and Offloading) unit for the Whiptail project in Guyana.

Each pump, weighing 104 tons, is supported by three AVM’s.Each AVM weighs approximately 1.5 – in other words, the AVM’s are very robust; they have been designed to withstand accidental loads up to 290 tons each horizontally and 205 tons in uplift. The AVM’s are ABS (American Bureau of Shipping) Design Approved.

When designing AVM’s it is i crucial that the stiffness of the sub-structure is taken into account when calculating the Transmissibility. This is extra important for heavy equipment offshore, as these decks often are relatively soft.

SSAB in Oxelösund is one of the world’s largest producers of advanced steel for various industries. The steel mill is running day and night, and some of the production uses recycled steel as raw material. Metal scrap is then being dropped into a large chute, causing high noise levels disturbing the surroundings. Constrained Layer Damping of the chute was necessary to address this issue.

SSAB contacted Vibratec to solve the problem with the disturbing noise radiating from this chute. The solution should provide sufficient damping over a broad frequency range as well as over a broad temperature range.

CLD-panels

Vibratec installed CLD-panels (Constrained Layer Damping) to cover the entire surface of the chute. The optimum loss factor for constrained layer damping (CLD) depends on temperature, thickness of layer, frequency and shear modulus of the damping layer, among many other parameters.

The CLD-materials used at SSAB was a combination of two damping materials – one optimal for winter temperatures, one for summer – ensuring a high loss factor in a wide range from -10 °C to +25 °C. In addition, they also work just as well for low frequency and up to app. 1000 Hz.

Recently the new Royal Opera and Dramaten was inaugurated in Flemingsberg, Sweden. This modern facility houses scenic workshops, rehearsal spaces, studios and costume storage.

Stringent requirements

With trains passing outside and activities inside the building, stringent requirements to reduce vibrations and structure borne sound were necessary. To meet the Opera’s requirements acoustic consultant Delta Akustik conducted extensive measurements that resulted in some tailored solutions.

The rehearsal hall, with a volume of nearly 9,000 cubic meters, is probably one of Sweden’s largest room-in-room constructions; the walls were made with steel pillars that were isolated with Regufoam that effectively eliminates vibrations from train traffic.

Furthermore, the solution includes:

• Floating floors on Regufoam strips: These isolate the structure from external vibrations, significantly reducing impact noise and structure-borne vibrations.
• Vibratec’s ceiling system VT-SFC: The suspended ceiling system ensures noise insulation, working harmoniously with the floating floors for comprehensive acoustic isolation
• Floating floor system VT-BAT: Installed in additional areas, this system optimizes soundproofing and enhances the overall acoustic environment.
